Elk Hunts

All elk hunts are conducted from tent camps with meals provided. "Spike camps" may be used depending on weather. Trophy care and meat handling in the field are provided and I have horses to pack out elk from inaccessible locations if needed. I can pick up hunters at the Show Low or Albuquerque airport for $300 per trip to the airport. The Pecos hunts are horseback hunts.

Hunters need to provide personal gear; sleeping bag (double-one inside the other), sun hat, sunscreen, sunglasses, 2 pair gloves, 2 pair boots (one pair pack boots) well broken in, rain gear (two piece suit of good quality) , two coats (medium and heavy), plenty of socks, small survival kit, day pack, flashlight, weapon of choice for the hunt, transportation to the hunt area and license/tags.

I am a second generation guide and outfitter in business for over thirty years. I guid for elk, deer, big horn sheep, bear and cougar. I have been spending a few months in Luna (unit 15) for the last 10 years. I help out on some of the cattle ranches, hunt and train my dogs in 15. I see elk almost every time I am out and have a good working relationship with the ranchers in the area. My hunts are conducted on US Forest Service land.

Options you may consider are adding bear and cougar to your hunt. Licenses can be purchased by mail and there is a 2-day waiting period for bear and a 2-day waiting period for cougar, from the time the license is purchased until a person can hunt. If you book a cougar hunt along with your elk hunt, and do not take a cougar on the elk hunt, you may return for a 5 cougar hunt at a later date but prior to the end of the license season.

Guide fee for elk is $4500 per person. (Guide fee does not include license) License is $541-$766 (Depends on hunt chosen) plus annual habitat stamp of $5 & $4 habatat management stamp (purchase one perperson annually) Bear and Cougar hunts booked separtely. Fees are negotiable and are dependent on services provided.
